Description Flavio 2009-11-11 09:05:50 UTC
www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.32.18 has got the following problem: when I go to the URL http://teamtir.blogspot.com/ (for example) mozilla firefox popup a message saying that "A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?". If I say NO here, firefox become unresponsive. I have to say yes every time.
The problem is related to the visit counter (coming from http://www.99counters.com/).

This problem doesn't happen on win OS, even though it probably has another adobe flash plugin version, but it never happended.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make sure to have www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.32.18
2. go to http://teamtir.blogspot.com/
3. wait few seconds for the adobe-flash message

Actual Results:
Nothing particular happened, apart from what I've wrote in the description.

Expected Results:
The software should load the script without any problem, like if it was on M$ operating system.

www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.32.18 was built with the following:
USE="64bit (multilib) -32bit"

Note that, I tried flash 10 on another linux distribution (i.e. kubuntu) and I obtained the same result.
Comment 3 Flavio 2009-11-25 17:13:51 UTC
Any improvement?

Unfortunately, since Adobe Flash is closed-source, there is very little I can do besides wait for Adobe to release a new version, and 10.0.32.18 is the latest as of today's date.

I would suggest reporting this upstream to Adobe, if you have not done so already:

Problem is not solved also in the 10.0.42.34 version. They are completely ignoring the bug I reported. Greetings to the Flash Player developers not considering it. :(

You need to be patient with Adobe. It did take them 6 years (maybe more? I've lost count) to produce a native 64-bit plugin, despite HUGE numbers of bug reports / feature requests...

The other thing could be some other interaction that is unique to your system that is difficult or impossible for them to reproduce. For example, with the newest flash player I can visit that site no problem, but I didn't have any problems with the previous version either. It could be another Firefox extension that's interfering, or something to do with video acceleration on your machine.

If you want to get to the bottom of the issue, I would try disabling all your firefox extensions first (or even starting a new firefox Profile with nothing installed). If that still exhibits the problem, you may just have to use an extension like "flashblock" to not run the flash on that site.

Yes, you are right, they are very slow, but how much time is needed to reply to a bug report like people do here? Anyway... I lost count too! :)

Maybe.. I will try without any extension, and I will let you know, if something changed.

Thank you!

I've just tried to create a new account, and to start a new Firefox session, wich doesn't have any plugin installed.

The problem still remain. So, it doesn't depend on a firefox extension.
