Description Markus 2009-11-10 19:49:59 UTC
I just tried kde4 again as kde3 is masked. (The first try was reverted due to no proxy support. What a pain.)
And now I have no sound.

I built media-sound/phonon with the xine Use-Flag successfully. But in the build process it says:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- The following external packages were located on your system.
-- This installation will have the extra features provided by these packages.
+ GLib2
+ LibXml2
+ OpenGL
+ XCB
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- The following OPTIONAL packages could NOT be located on your system.
-- Consider installing them to enable more features from this software.
+ GStreamer, 0.10: gstreamer 0.10 is required for the multimedia backend <http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/modules/>
+ GStreamer video plugin, 0.10: The gstreamer video plugin (part of gstreamer-plugins-base 0.10) is required for the multimedia gstreamer backend <http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/modules/>
+ GStreamer audio plugin, 0.10: The gstreamer audio plugin (part of gstreamer-plugins-base 0.10) is required for the multimedia gstreamer backend <http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/modules/>
+ Xine: xine-lib v1.1.90 was found on your system. This version contains major changes compared to 1.1.x and has not been tested properly for use with this backend. Consider downgrading to version 1.1.9. <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=9655&package_id=9732>
+ Xine: libxine is needed to compile phonon xine backend <http://xinehq.de/>
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

But there is no version of xine-lib before 1.1.16.3-r1! What should I do?
Shouldnt the ebuild fail on this?

"I have no sound." isn't enough information for us to do anything about it. Closing this as NEEDINFO.
Comment 2 Markus 2010-01-04 15:36:46 UTC
The problem is not that I have no sound.
The main problem is that phonon seems to build successfully, but actually isn't built against a "too new" version of xine-lib. (Thats already detected in the build process as noted above.)

Phonon should fail with the xine useflag and a "too new" version of xine in the build process or via dependencies.

Which version of phonon?
Which version of KDE?
emerge --info output?

Working fine here with 1.1.18 and 1.1.18 and phonon-4.4.0

You are right. The problem no longer exists for me.
