Using the release gentoo 1.4 live CD-ROM, it boots from the Sony firewire CD-ROM. It also says it is detecting firewire, and I was sure to add the "dofirewire" option when booting the kernel. I also tried to mount manually from /dev/sdb* but kept getting "invalid device". Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Put in Gentoo 1.4 CD-ROM. 2.Reboot Computer. Actual Results: Doesn't mount root. Expected Results: Should have mounted root.
Also happens on the Acer C100 with the firewire DVD/CDRW ESV-189i Strange thing is that it worked with a previous version of the LiveCD prior to 1.4.
similar problem with Sony PCGA-CRWD1 firewire cdrom on gentoo 2004.1 and gentoo kernel with and without relevant associated options (doscsi dofirewire noapic) .. however, it appears to work fine with smp doscsi .. (2.6.5 kernel) - block device is 11,0 commonly labeled as scd0 on fuller systems machine is a single processor Sony PCG-U1 laptop - working kernel string: smp doscsi nohotplug
I've had similar effects on Acer TM 370 with all liveCDs (1.4,2004.0, 2004.1, 2004.2) but I think I've detected the problem : it's fully reproduceable, but only works with the 2004.0 LiveCD 1.) if boot with the CD (smp firewire (cause I like 2.6) and with the mains-adapter (CPU at full speed) it doesn't work, when you are kicked in the ash shell, wait a little, the start ./linuxrc (doesn't work correctly but..) and you will see that the cdrom is mounted correctly .) if you boot with the CD (smp firewire (cause I like 2.6) and without!!! the mains-adapter (CPU runs at lower speed) everything is working ok, cdrom is mounted and you are able to proceed with the install. My solution would be to change the function (I don't know the name yet, it's this function which mounts the cdrom to the /newroot/mnt/cdrom) in etc/initrd.scripts to do e.g. 3 or 5 retries if the device is comming up or not regards odi
old bug, reopen if necessary
