I've attached an ebuild for PyMol (pymol.sf.net), a very nice molecular visualization package that I use extensively in my research. IMHO it is the best open-source application of its type. If accepted, this ebuild should probably go into portage as app-sci/pymol. I noticed that Tod Neidt is already working on scientific packages for gentoo. If it would be helpful, I am willing to assist his efforts. Thanks, Ben

Anything I can do to speed this along? Ben
Hi Tod, Ben. Ben: I quickly glanced at the ebuild, it seems to be generally Ok. There are few minor issues such as (basically) missing header and inconsistent use of spaces and tabs, but this will be trivially corrected. Tod: I can take care of this ebuild, if you do not have any special plans for it. Please feel free to assign it to me at you preference (<george@gentoo.org>). George

your wish is granted
Hi Ben. Thanks for a submission, I am processing it now. However I noticed that new ebuild requires a patch which I cannot see attached to the bug. Coud you please attach the patch? George
Created attachment 2349 [details] Changelog attaching Changelog and slightly modified ebuild (so stuff does not get lost)
Created attachment 2350 [details] cleaned up ebuild the most significant change: got rid of PYMOL_VERSION and replaced it everywhere with ${PV} which gets assigned to exactly 0.82. Additionally this is more future proof.
George, Thanks for getting to this. I had largely given up on it to tell you the truth. The patch for .82 is the same as the patch for .80, which is included in the .80 ebuild. Thanks, Ben
Hi Ben. Thanks for the responce. Committed. George
