I have installed the new mm-sources release (2.6.0-test5-mm3) on a laptop which have a network card of type via-rhine. The loading of the module is ok (no problem). When i do this command: ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 (whatever the address) the system freeze immediatly ! Details: this kernel is compiled with gcc-3.3.1-r1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. modprobe via-rhine --> ok 2. ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 --> system frozen 3. Actual Results: The system is frozen and i must poweroff the computer. Expected Results: the interface eth0 would have its IP address set. Can you tell us more about what nic you have? What about previous versions of the kernel that have worked?
This looks like an upstream problem. Try development-sources instead. If this worked on previous mm-sources, for example, e.g the release before this, I think posting to LKML might be a good idea. Please inform us of any kernels you've tried already.
Reporter has reported that he experiences this bug on all 2.6x kernels. Sadly, we have to close this bug as INVALID as this is an upstream problem. Please contact the LKML [www.lkml.org]
