Description William Throwe 2009-11-02 02:39:19 UTC
The system bell rings on a failed search using the page text searcher. It does not seem to be possible to disable this, even by toggling the accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound preference. This was off by default in 3.5.3.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge icecat 3.5.4
2. search for a string that does not occur
3. note annoying beeping

Actual Results:
It beeps, and I can't stop it.

Expected Results:
It shouldn't beep, or the beep should at least be configurable.

Comment 1 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2009-11-10 07:44:42 UTC
in about:config simply change accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound;true to false and restart browser.
Comment 2 William Throwe 2010-02-13 04:43:34 UTC
(Didn't realize this was still open.) Thanks, that fixed it. The instructions I'd followed online implied a restart was unnecessary, and I didn't think to try one. Marking INVALID.
