Description Markus Wernig 2009-11-01 15:13:13 UTC
Hi all

Fore some time I had masked >=device-mapper-1.00, because it kept conflicting with udev.
Now I tried to resolve this, but the conflicts remain. I tried this:

emerge -C udev lvm2; emerge device-mapper; emerge udev

But udev refuses to be installed:
[ebuild N ] sys-fs/udev-146-r1 USE="devfs-compat extras (-selinux)"
[blocks B ] sys-fs/device-mapper ("sys-fs/device-mapper" is blocking sys-fs/udev-146-r1)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

('ebuild', '/', 'sys-fs/udev-146-r1', 'merge') pulled in by
    udev

('installed', '/', 'sys-fs/device-mapper-1.02.28', 'nomerge') pulled in by
    sys-fs/device-mapper required by world

Other way round:
emerge -C udev device-mapper; emerge udev; emerge device-mapper

Similar result:
[ebuild N ] sys-fs/device-mapper-1.02.28 USE="(-selinux)"
[blocks B ] sys-fs/device-mapper ("sys-fs/device-mapper" is blocking sys-fs/udev-146-r1)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

('ebuild', '/', 'sys-fs/device-mapper-1.02.28', 'merge') pulled in by
    device-mapper

I do need device-mapper, though, and I sure need udev.

Can it be that it is not possible to install the two together? Or that it is not possible to resolve the conflict? (There is bug #189294 that says that the RDPEND was introduced in order to force a device-mapper upgrade together with a certain udev upgrade. But at the moment this is just blocking, not forcing :-)

Any ideas of how to go about this? At the moment I'm back to masking out >=device-mapper-1.00, but that workaround won't last forever.

Thanks /markus

device-mapper was merged upstream into lvm2.
Comment 3 Markus Wernig 2009-11-01 21:50:28 UTC
Ah, OK. Thanks.
