Description Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2009-10-30 12:27:17 UTC
After updating syslog-ng from 2.0.4 to current 3.0.4 I had to comment out an option within /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf :
        ts_format(iso);
        #frac_digits(3)
to get syslog-ng up and running. Otherwise I got :

n22 /usr/portage/net-libs/xulrunner # /etc/init.d/syslog-ng restart
 * Stopping syslog-ng ...                                                                                                             [ ok ]
syntax error in /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf at line 16.

syslog-ng documentation: http://www.balabit.com/support/documentation/?product=syslog-ng
mailing list: https://lists.balabit.hu/mailman/listinfo/syslog-ng
 * Configuration error. Please fix your configfile (/etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf)                                                    [ !! ]

Reproducible: Always

What exactly is the problem? Looks like you had some stuff in /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf that is only valid for the old version. It's your responsibility to fix the configuration. Maybe the maintainer wants to add a post-install message, that changes to the configuration might be necessary.

The config option :

frac_digits(3)

is valid accordingly to the 3.0 PDF documentation - so either the doc is wrong or the softeware is buggy.
