FWIW, upstream has said that MySQL Workbench (see bug #238507 for ebuilds) is to replace the GUI Tools. This was noted in several bugs on upstream saying they would not fix Query Browser or Administrator for this reason. In addition, the link listed in dev-db/mysql-gui-tools redirects to Workbench now.
dev-db/mysql-gui-tools has been package.mask'ed, because it has been discontinued by upstream. please consider using its successor dev-db/mysql-workbench.
