Description Andreas Most 2009-10-26 14:49:21 UTC
After upgrading to emacs-23.1 I've got the error
gnus-configure-frame: Invalid size: gnus-carpal
when using gnus. Googleing the problem gave the following solution.
Uninstall app-emacs/gnus because gnus is already delivered with emacs-23.1.
Somehow gnus-5.10.10 does not work with emacs-23.1
After doing so gnus works again.

Shouldn't app-emacs/gnus be blocked for app-editors/emacs-23.1 because it is already part of it?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install app-editors/emacs-23.1
2. Install app-emacs/gnus-5.10.10
3. Start emacs and gnus
4. Try to enter a usenet group

Actual Results:
summary buffer does not open and error is given:
"gnus-configure-frame: Invalid size: gnus-carpal"

Expected Results:
summary buffer opens

This should be fixed in gnus-5.10.10-r1, could you please test if it works now?

This was already the case for Emacs 21. We keep the stand-alone package because it normally is more up-to-date than the version bundled with Emacs.

Works fine with gnus-5.10.10-r1.

Thanks for the quick support.
