This is really an upstream bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/hplip/+bug/335662 that I am suffering since months without reply from upstream :-( The problem is that, when gnome login takes some time (for example, just after rebooting), I usually get: "No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting".
