Description Enrique Domínguez 2009-10-20 10:01:02 UTC
Start X via xinit, my .xinitrc
--
imwheel -f -k -p -b "89"
exec /usr/bin/ssh-agent -- /usr/bin/xsm
--
with this .xsmstartup
--
twm
xclock -digital
xterm -rv -geometry 130x40+0+0
xterm -rv -geometry 130x33+0+555
--
If you try to show 'client list' in xsm menu, application will crash

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start X via xinit with only xsm (via .xinitrc)
2.Run in xsm a 'xterm -rv' terminal and twm (via .xsmstartup)
3.Try to show 'client list' on xsm menu
4.xsm will crash (and X session will end)

Actual Results:
xsm crashing and X session ended

Expected Results:
xsm client list is showed

There is missing fonts in twm package. Maybe it's twm specific because missing fonts? (there is a bug open with that) xsm session over gnome-session is working well (with metacity) I post here that output:
$ xsm

Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

twm: another window manager is already running. on screen 0?

Sorry, there's little I can do to help you here, xsm is such an antiquated utility, only upstream know its internals. Please file a bug in FreeDesktop's bugzilla [1] and paste the URL here so I can track the issue.

Thanks

Let's track the bug upstream directly then. Closing with the proper resolution.

Thanks
