This version have bug - I report it in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=281667#c9
Here is ticket from MC homepage ticket http://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/1585

Why stabilize this version and remove from tree MC 4.6.1-r4 which works great ?
Version 4.7.0pre3 working a little better but still not OK.

Upstream performance issue. We will get the improvements with the version
bumps.

Oh, because of the hundred other bugs 4.7.0_pre1 closed? Including native
Unicode support.

I think that your flavour for new version is right idea. 100% agree.
But when "pre" version was stabilized, is better allow still downgrade to last stable version (stay in portage).

View file 250MB (log file) - key "F3" and then key "End"
mc-4.6.1-r4 - without delay
mc-4.7pre1 - about 30-50 seconds (cpu max usage)
mc-4.7pre3 - about 7-10 seconds (cpu max usage)

Roadmap 29/10/2009 - mc-4.7pre4 - I'll try after release and refer here
