Description tommed 2009-10-18 12:32:22 UTC
I am installing Gentoo on a Mac Mini with a UK mac keyboard.
But when I load the mac-uk keymap, I am unable to continue with installation as the keyboard no longer works.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
I am installing Gentoo on a Mac Mini with a UK mac keyboard.

1. Booted into the 20090809 minimal weekly boot cd
2. Kernel boot options = "ppc32 video-radeonfb"
3. Typed: ls /usr/share/keymaps/ppc/all
GOT: list including mac-uk.keymap.gz
4. Typed: loadkeys mac-uk
Actual Results:
very strange behaviour where most keys didn't do anything, backspace resulted in a 'e' being typed and return key having no affect whatsoever. :S

Expected Results:
my keyboard layout to now match

Sorry, should say "mac-uk.map.gz" not "mac-uk.keymap.gz"
Comment 2 tommed 2009-10-18 13:08:42 UTC
I've tried "mac-euro" for now as this works fine, but obviously the layout isn't quite the same.

Thanks for reporting this issue, assigning to ppc team to take a look -- however it may be hard for them to reproduce, if none of the devs have a UK mac keyboard...

As all characters (including the alphanumerical ones) cause the problem, you might be able to set a standard keyboard to this layout and re-create the same problem? I don't know much about keyboard layouts, but I'm assuming that the alphanumerical keys have the same codes on all English-based (US/UK) keyboards?

I'm pretty sure the mac-* layouts are for ADB keyboards/keycodes and not modern setups. You should just use the default PC UK layout and it should work fine. Please feel free to reopen this bug if this is not the case.
