Description flarius 2009-10-13 12:52:43 UTC
after running gentoo-nofb kernel, the installer hangs after loading module tg3. tg3 therewhile will be succcessfully loaded, but after loading this module the boot process hangs. problem occurs both with and without noload=tg3 kernel option. what happens here? how can i skip this problem? there is no debug output visible..(LIVEDVD10.0, Samsung X10 Notebook)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. during boot process
2.
3.

Please try version 10.1 and report back if it is still valid.

Still the same problem with LIVDDVD10.1. After scanning/skipping module tg3 the boot process hangs. But this problem does'nt occurs generaly, with an other more modern notebook its works perfectly. What could be the problem, that my old samsumg x10 notebook hangs when loading/starting mdev services?

you sure it's after loading the tg3 module and not another? if 'noload=tg3' doesn't work then I would suspect is some other module. paste your lspci output and try booting with noload on the module before and after tg3 if possible.

I found the same problem on my Toshiba notebook (Satellite S5200-903) when using a minimal install cd. The problem occurs both with the gentoo and gentoo-nofb kernel and also both with and without skipping. Also for all builds from the autobuilds directory ehich I tested so far.

I experience the same with the Gentoo Live DVD 10.1 and MSI K7N420 Pro nForce motherboard. So this is not just issue of notebooks.
