This here looks a lot like bug #80965 from ages ago, but I assume there is little to be gained from reopening that ancient report again: $ xine -s dvd This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.5. (c) 2000-2007 The xine Team. xiTK WARNING(xitk_font_load_font:738): loading font "*-helvetica-bold-o-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" failed, default and system fonts "(null)" and "fixed" failed too xiTK WARNING(xitk_font_load_font:738): loading font "*-helvetica-bold-o-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" failed, default and system fonts "(null)" and "fixed" failed too xiTK WARNING(xitk_font_load_font:738): loading font "fixed" failed, default and system fonts "(null)" and "fixed" failed too xiTK DIE: create_labelofbutton()@126: xitk_font_load_font() failed. Bug #288256 comment #14 mentions this same issue. So if this has indeed the same cause as the rest of bug #288256, then the fix for that should fix this one here as well. If not, this one here needs further investigation. I'll therefore mark this here as depending on #288256.
As I wrote in bug #288256 comment #17, the problem with xine is caused by this commit to freetype: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=3bda1f9949d20cc46fc76e3876bcff545cc8d665 I guess this whole report here might be better assigned to the fonts herd than to media-video, whether it's the same as bug #288256 or distinct from it.
Notified upstream, as did Peter Volkov. They are taking care of things: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.fonts.freetype.user/3348/focus=3349 http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.fonts.freetype.user/3350 There might be a bugfix release of freetype pretty soon. The author of the commit in question already committed a fix: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=008686a12313c89168f5aef5074d46508ef4b774 So until the next release comes along, we might take that.
freetype fixed. And, this is the same issue as bug 288256. Marking as dupe. Thank you Marting for help. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 288256 ***
