/bin/rc-status is a symlink to /sbin/rc with OpenRC It looks like your rc-status is still the old bash version.
As you guessed rc-status is still the bash version: # ls -l /bin/rc-status -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9194 2009-09-03 10:13 /bin/rc-status Yet portage reports that it's a symlink: # equery b /bin/rc-status * Searching for /bin/rc-status ... sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3 (/bin/rc-status -> /sbin/rc) I switched to ~amd64 last May but I don't remember whether I used rc-status since then. I can see I emerged two versions of openrc yet it never replaced the file by the symlink: # genlop openrc * sys-apps/openrc Wed May 6 17:16:18 2009 >>> sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r2 Tue Jun 9 16:38:15 2009 >>> sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3 (The /bin/rc-status timestamp on my FS is dated September because I copied the files from a backup after modifying my partitions layout) I just did an emerge -1 openrc and now the symlink is here and rc-status works as expected: # ls -l /bin/rc-status lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 2009-10-10 05:28 /bin/rc-status -> /sbin/rc # rc-status Runlevel: default hddtemp [ started ] dbus [ started ] ... Thanks for the help and sorry for the trouble
This is fixed per the last comment, so I am closing it.
