Description Bob Raitz 2009-10-08 04:22:29 UTC
Using /etc/portage/package.mask to mask the following:
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-compat-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-medialibs-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-sdl-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-soundlibs-20081109
>app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-20081109
=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-20091004_rc1

I have had to re-install the older libraries three times since this issue began, and always because I'm just doing a daily sync/update. This is BEYOND irritating.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. masked files keep reinstalling themselves.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
I expect that packages masked in /etc/portage/package.mask will be repeatedly reemerged, when such operation is clearly NOT desired.

Comment 2 Bob Raitz 2009-10-08 04:29:16 UTC
I do not know which version of portage where this error begins. All I do know is that it is the same with portage-2.2_rc43 and portage-2.2_rc44.

The most curious thing is that none of the other listed packages are attempting to emerge. Only the first listed apps are having this issue...the ones with really long names.

Please try: ">=" instead of just ">"
Comment 4 Bob Raitz 2009-10-08 13:02:12 UTC
If it were that easy, I'd have not wasted the time writing a bug report.
Comment 5 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-09 17:40:21 UTC
So what is in your package.unmask?

Good question...and you found the issue.

>=sys-apps/portage-2.2_pre
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-soundlibs-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-compat-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-medialibs-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-sdl-20081109
>=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-20081109

I did not make those changes. Until just now, I thought the only thing I had in that file was >=sys-apps/portage-2.2_pre. How did that happen?

I'm confused, but the machine is fixed. Thanks for that. I'll keep that in mind for the next issue I have. You can call this one fixed.
