Description gringo 2009-10-06 08:38:24 UTC
i don´t know if it is just sth. cosmetic or a more serious issue, that´s why i´m filling this bug. Other three ppc users have also noted this in gentoo.

If i do f.ex. file /bin/bash in my G4 powerbook :

/bin/bash: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, with unknown capability 0x41000000 = 0x11676e75, with unknown capability 0x10000 = 0x90401, stripped

when it should say altivec enabled instead of unknown capability blablabla.

does anyone know what is causing this ?
This has been happening for a while in this lappy, i have not noted any side effects, everything is working fine AFAICT.

Perhaps you overdid it with CFLAGS ?
IIRC, '-ftree-vectorize' is known to be broken on gcc 4.4.

could be but i don´t think this has anything to do with CFLAGS : this has been happening for quite long now ( 1 year at least, probably more ...) and i have been playing with several cflags combinations in all this time.
The other three guys hitting the same "issue" use sane cflags btw - to me this smells like sth. is gone wrong with glibc but i have no clue actually nor did i find anything relevant.

thanks !

I got the same output on my PowerBook G4. But why do you say it should be "altivec enabled" ?

well, at some point it said "altivec enabled" instead of "capability 0x41000000 = 0x11676e75, with unknown capability 0x10000 = 0x90401,stripped".

as said above, i´m really just asking if this is a bug or not, everything works as expected AFAICT.

i will rebuild this box as soon as i have access to it again and it will be interesting to see if the same happens.

thanks !
Comment 5 gringo 2010-01-12 16:05:53 UTC
new install and almost the same output :

/bin/bash: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, with unknown capability 0x41000000 = 0xf676e75, stripped

closing as invalid.

thanks !
