Description J.C. Wren 2009-10-02 18:41:12 UTC
webkit-gtk fails to compile as a result of the following undefined references:
./.libs/libwebkit-1.0.so: undefined reference to `findDoctypeEntry(char const*, unsigned int)'
./.libs/libwebkit-1.0.so: undefined reference to `findEntity(char const*, unsigned int)'
./.libs/libwebkit-1.0.so: undefined reference to `findValue(char const*, unsigned int)'
./.libs/libwebkit-1.0.so: undefined reference to `findColor(char const*, unsigned int)'
./.libs/libwebkit-1.0.so: undefined reference to `findProp(char const*, unsigned int)'

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge webkit-gtk
2.
3.

Expected Results:
Compiles successfully

Same problem.
Comment 3 Sylvain Vasseur 2009-10-06 22:44:06 UTC
I had the same error and looked everywhere until I realized my make.conf was incorrect...
It looks like the same for yours as you have an empty CXXFLAGS:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=core2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
CXXFLAGS=""

Try adding (or correcting) your CXXFLAGS definition with something like:
CXXFLAGS="$CFLAGS"
Comment 4 J.C. Wren 2009-10-07 00:08:50 UTC
Well, that seems to fix it. My /etc/make.conf had CXXFLAGS="$(CFLAGS)". It's been in there a LONG time without it causing a problem, as near as I can tell. The correct setting is CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" if you're going to use the most correct form. CXXFLAGS="$CFLAGS" will work also, since there's no additional text.

Either I read it wrong a long time ago, or the use of parenthesis has become deprecated.
Comment 5 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2009-10-11 01:14:44 UTC
An empty CXXFLAGS should still allow things to compile though...

$(CXXFLAGS) would try to execute the command "CXXFLAGS" and use the output of it in place of the $(...). Almost completely equal to `CXXFLAGS` in that sense.
Comment 6 Atle Pedersen 2009-12-07 10:31:49 UTC
I had the following combination:

CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O0 -ggdb"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

Got the same error as above.

This works:
CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe"

So it also seems webkit might have problem with -ggdb.

I second this. I also have -ggdb and it fails the same way.

CFLAGS="-pipe -march=amdfam10 -ggdb"
CXXFLAGS="-pipe -march=amdfam10 -ggdb"

BTW I was installing =net-libs/webkit-gtk-1.1.15.4
