I made a jpilot-visorusb ebuild, but the version in portage is only 9.5, whereas mine is 9.6. The reason i made a seperate ebuild was because the Handspring Visor needs to use version 9.5 of pilot-link to work with usb and this is not in portage.
Will it be possible to put this ebuild in portage? Once you have updated the portage so it includes 9.5 of pilot link, please post a comment so i can post my ebuild.
I think it might be better if I did DEPEND=">=x11-libs/gtk+-2> visorusb? (app-pda/pilot-link-0.9.5) ||(app-pda/pilot-link-0.11.8)" instead of making a seperate ebuild Also, i have pilot-link updated to 11.8(for non visor) which isnt in portage either.

I think everything is now ready to be put into portage.
if you don't mind, i'll take this one .. so handspring visor needs an ancient version of pilot-link to work over usb? could you clarify which versions you are talking about? it is pretty confusing when you leave out the 0. in front of all the version numbers. also, pilot-link-0.11.8 has been in portage for about 2 weeks now. i don't understand your syntax in the DEPEND. does that mean if you want handspring visor support you need =app-pda/pilot-link-0.9.5*, otherwise >=app-pda/pilot-link-0.11* ? my palm zire 71 works fine over usb with the newest pilot-link, could you point me to something that says handspring visor doesn't work over usb for pilot-link-0.11 ? according to www.pilot-link.org, 0.9.5 doesn't have usb support at all.
From jpilot homepage: Do NOT use jpilot with pilot-link 0.11.0, 0.11.1, or 0.11.2! You have been warned. You can use 0.11.3 if you need usb, or a pilot-link older than 0.11 for serial, or usb visors.
you mean here? http://www.jpilot.org/download.html it says only 0.11.[123] .. what about 0.11.8 ? does that work for usb visors because the README sure implies it does.
By that quote from the jpilot download page, it seems like jpilot believes that if a person has a serial visor it will not work with jpilot and newer versions of pilot-link. I am not sure if thhis is true for usb but the statement indicates it.
i got word from the pilot-link developers that handspring visor works with usb and serial in pilot-link-0.11.*. have you actually tried to use jpilot with pilot-link-0.11 with your handspring visor to see if it works?
i'm pretty sure pilot-link-0.11 works with usb handspring visor. closing this unless i hear otherwise
