Description Helmut Jarausch 2009-10-02 09:49:57 UTC
On my AMD64 system, I have both, python2.6 and python3.1 installed, but
according to
eselect python list
Available python interpreters:
  [1] python2.6 *
  [2] python3.1

I have selected python2.6 as standard Python interpreter.

When emerging dev-python/docutils-0.6_pre6148 or
dev-python/bpython-0.9.5.2 both packages try to use python3.1 and fail
because of missing packages or a sandbox violation, e.g.
dev-python/docutils-0.6_pre6148 gives
python3.1 setup.py build
Error: The "distutils" standard module, which is required for the
installation of Docutils, could not be found. You may need to ..

Similarly, dev-python/bpython-0.9.5.2 gives sandbox violations accessing
ACCESS DENIED open_wr: /usr/lib/python3.1/lib2to3/Grammar3.1.0.candidate.2.pickle
and many more such messages.

Reproducible: Always

Add new revision to ensure that dev-python/setuptools is installed by
default for Python 2 and Python 3.
Comment 6 Howard B. Golden 2009-10-02 19:52:40 UTC
Please reopen this bug. The change to setuptools-0.6.3-r3 causes python3.1 to be used for easy_install. This crashes /usr/lib64/portage/bin/portageq at line 52, because it uses the Python2 print statement. This error occurred when trying to emerge dev-python/bpython-0.9.5.2. Error messages follow:

python.eclass.patch

(In reply to comment #6)

It's unrelated to this bug, but please test this patch. Save it as /tmp/python.eclass.patch and apply using:
patch /usr/portage/eclass/python.eclass /tmp/python.eclass.patch

I tested the patch. It resolved the problem I had in comment #6. Thanks for your prompt attention!
