etc-update can do config merges. I want them improved. I want that before a config merge I can have an option where I see the lines that are different in the two config's and I want to confirm which line in the new config is the same as before and which of the different lines is going to replaced by the new content. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Isn't this already in portage? Just select the number of the config file to update on the list of updates, then when it comes up with the next menu, choose the interactively merge the updates. It should give you a line by line option to change whatever lines are different between the two config files.
I always updated config files with etc-update. I did't saw a line opton there. After emerge portage tells me that I can try etc-update to emerge config files. When trying this it tells me that It is going to update when i press -3. Then it asks for every file to copy (subtle is: if I answer n instead of y, it asks again). What I want is now in etc-update a modus that when I'm ask do you want to merge config file xy I can say yes, no, l (for linemerge). That shows me the lines which are different in every file and also a yes, no, edit question where I can confirm if i want to copy, let stay or write the specifc lines at my own. When this is already in Portage I did't have it seen, yet.
Interactive merge.
