Was working fine for a few days after a new system build with the latest amd64 arch Gentoo. Then the other day, he just froze on a reboot. I can get to the desktop screen and gnome plays the intro music and I can move my mouse, but no icons and can’t do anything with it. That is with startx. GDM just fails miserably. Here is my make.conf, emerge –info and a few relevant cat .logs Any help would REALLY be appreciated dmesg | grep -e agp -e drm |wgetpaste Your paste can be seen here: http://dpaste.com/100289/ dmesg | grep -e agp -e drm agpgart-amd64 0000:00:00.0: AGP bridge [1106/0204] agpgart-amd64 0000:00:00.0: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xe8000000 Linux agpgart interface v0.103 Gentoo-box1 ~ # grep openchrome /var/log/Xorg.0.log (II) LoadModule: "openchrome" (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//openchrome_drv.so (II) Module openchrome: vendor="http://openchrome.org/" (!!) Please try using xf86-video-vesa instead of unichrome. You'll need to change your xorg.conf for that. Thanks
(In reply to comment #8) > Please try using xf86-video-vesa instead of unichrome. You'll need to change > your xorg.conf for that. > Thanks I get a dbus_g_proxy_connect_signal: assertion 'DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed error when startx as user from keyboard, not ssh
Are you able to start a simple X session (twm, fluxbox, whatever) using start X or GDM?
(In reply to comment #10) > Are you able to start a simple X session (twm, fluxbox, whatever) using start X > or GDM? No, startx fails. I am on the gentoo channel and someone suggested I not use xorg.conf and let hal do the management. I did an mv of xorg.conf and now I cannot even get to the background. Here is an additional error from the dbus and yes, I did unmerge and remerge dbus to get rid of the error, but it is still there.. there is a second error under the dbus gnome-session: symbol lookup +error: /usr/lib64/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanerra-gtk-modules.so: undefined +symbol: ca_gtk_play_for_widget
