Description Joakim 2009-09-23 10:12:01 UTC
When running emerge -uD it want to upgrade the current PEAR-PEAR package to the new PEAR-PEAR-1.8.1 as well as several other PEAR packages due to it been split up. But the -D (deep) switch causes these packages to be pulled in before PEAR-PEAR-1.8.1 in the list, causing a file collision error as at least parts of them already is own by PEAR-PEAR-1.7.1 (or something similar).

I am not an expert on this so not sure but I think the PEAR-PEAR-1.8.1 package needs a BLOCK flag (or how it's done) so older version get uninstalled BEFORE the other coliding sub packages gets pulled in.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.% emerge -uD world
2.
3.

 * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other
 * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq
 * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a
 * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do
 * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at
 * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s).
 * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from
 * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough
 * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file
 * a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org unless you report exactly which
 * two packages install the same file(s). Once again, please do NOT file
 * a bug report unless you have completely understood the above message.

Removing the -D switch of course is a workaround but it shouldn't be needed OR the ebuild (if not solveble in a feasable way) should give a warning and inform about how to solve it.

maybe not needed but doesn't hurt, emerge info:

Steve, can you handle that, please, as you added -1.8*, iirc?

And would it be ok for you to become primary maintainer for PEAR? If so, please add yourself to metadata.xml.

Agreed, sorry I missed that, fixed in CVS.
