My system runs on kde 3.5.
I applied the command: emerge koffice, and got message that app-office/koffice is masked by /usr/portage profiles/package.mask. I downloaded the gentoo kde guide from the website and thought that potentially the solution is to download kde4.

tried: emerge -av kde-meta:4.3 and got message that there are no ebuilds available to satisfy kde-base/kde-meta:4.3

tried: emerge -av kde-meta:4.2 and got message kde-base/kde-meta-4.2.4 is masked by ~86 keyword

Try emerging app-office/koffice-meta; app-office/koffice is the old monolithic package, which is going to be removed Soon™.
