Description Denis Sokolovsky 2009-09-22 14:58:44 UTC
When I have perl 5.10.1 installed I have core module threads::shared v1.29, but dev-perl/Thread-Queue wants to install >=virtual/perl-threads-shared-1.21.

BTW same with dev-perl/Thread-Semaphore

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Please provide emerge --info and the config.log (or other logs if it doesn't fail during ./configure).
Comment 2 Denis Sokolovsky 2009-09-22 19:44:04 UTC
Well, emerge --info and compilation is not relevant. Main issue is that portage wants to install package dev-perl/perl-threads-shared, which provide perl module threads::shared, when I allready have one (provided by perl 5.10.1, package dev-lang/perl).

I can unmask package dev-perl/perl-threads-shared and everything will be ok (from portage's pov). But I didn't must to install that package to get working Thread::Queue module, as I allready have threads::shared with perl 5.10.1.

For example, if I decide to install Thread::Queue via perl cpan shell then cpan will install only Thread::Semaphore by dependence, but not threads::shared
.

Hmm, may be providing of virtual modules (such as virtual/perl-threads-shared) by package dev-lang/perl will be enough to resolve this issue?

Well, it doesn't work as you expect.

If threads::shared v1.29 is part of perl-5.10.1, then virtual/perl-threads-shared-1.29 depends on either perl-5.10.1 or perl-core/threads-shared-1.29.
virtual/perl-threads-shared-1.30 will only depend on perl-core/threads-shared-1.30

I've fixed the dependencies of the virtuals in the overlay.

But the package manager uses the latest package, so often will the new package installed.
