Would it be possible to get kannel using the ssl-cert eclass for generating all the necessary ssl files like dovecot/postfix/etc?

Fixed in 1.4.3 by creating the ssl cert in pkg_config(). 
You'll have to run "emerge --config kannel" if you want to create such certificate.

I just looked at the ebuild...a few comments.
1. Do the comments take into consideration running the admin and sendsms interfaces over ssl?

You'd probably still need to key files for that to function correctly.
2. The certs are stored in /etc/kannel which is fine but different from others using /etc/ssl/<app>

It also appears that the parameter
ssl-certkey-file
is no longer valid.  At least I put it in core and bearerbox failed saying it was invalid option.

Fixed in cvs. 
Sorry, I don't use this package anymore, I just maintain it.
