packages.mask states: # <liquidx@gentoo.org> (09 Mar 2003) # depends on moz gtk2 which isn't well tested yet >=net-www/galeon-1.3.2 However, this no longer seems to be true. The recent mozilla-1.4 ebuilds no longer have the warnings and special hoops that were required to compile mozilla with gtk2 support. This indicates that the Gentoo maintainers believe mozilla's gtk2 support is reasonably good. In addition, epiphany, the new mozilla-based GNOME 2.4 browser, requires mozilla with gtk2 support. I propose that the galeon mask be removed, and that the 1.3 series still be marked testing. It may also be time to consider building mozilla with gtk2 support by default, i.e. not requiring USE=gtk2. Additionally, galeon-1.3.8 is out. From the galeon web site: 10 Sep, 2003 - Galeon 1.3.8 Released! After far too long, as seems rather common these days, we have a new galeon release for you. 1.3.8 has some nice new features and a revamped bookmark editor as well as a lot of bugfixes. It's also significant because we're formally announcing that 1.2.x support will be limited to ensuring it still compiles with newer mozilla releases. This has been de facto for a while now, but we're now confident that 1.3.x is a good product for the average user despite its nominal 'unstable' status. And here's the summarised changes:
copying the 1.3.7 ebuild over works been running 1.3.8 for 12hrs or so now working fine and unmasking 1.3 series would be nice feature wise its pretty much caught up with 1.2 now only a few minor things left out now
I actually haven't been able to get mozilla-1.4-r3 to compile with gcc-3.3.1 and gtk2 support; see bug #28352. This has prevented testing galeon-1.3.8.
As I expected, gnome-base/gnome-2.4 requires >=net-www/epiphany-1, which requires >=net-www/mozilla-1.4 and >=x11-libs/gtk+-2. epiphany does not have a gtk2 USE flag since it is gtk2-only. Realistically this means mozilla is going to have to use gtk2 by default, and galeon users will need to use the 1.3 series. The internal compiler error I get with gcc-3.3.1-r1 prevents me from compiling mozilla with gtk2 support, which prevents me from merging epiphany, which prevents me from merging gnome-2.4. I may have to locally mask gcc-3.3.1-r1 to get everything to work (3.2.3 doesn't have this problem afaik).
>=net-www/galeon-1.3.2 is now unmasked, so I'm marking this fixed.
