hello, I've installed gentoo from the latest net (install-amd64-minimal-20090903.iso) no media folder is created, when I plug a usb stick and trying to mount it, I get a error (which is attached) using kde 4.3.1

Reproducible: Always

You need to clarify a few things.
Does /media dir exist ?
Are there any processes running that do keep the lock on
.hal-mtab ?
What's the content of that file ?

nope, like I've said, the latest stage3 wont create a media folder (I know I can create it... that's not the point)

the file doesn't exists, I think that the error is because hal is trying to create the file in a non existent folder

What happens after you manually create /media, does it work ok? If so, then all we need to do is figure out which package should be responsible for creating /media...

sys-apps/hal created /media on my stable system...

closed, latest hal solves it
