Description Nikolaos Chatzidakis 2009-09-06 10:18:43 UTC
Hello. I formated my gentoo yesterday to convert my partitions to ext4 from scratch. I have a problem though... Every time openrc boots, i get the error:

ERROR: rc: unlink '/lib64/rc/init.d/failed/net.eth0' failed. Read only file system.

I tried to downgrade openrc but i had problems (incompatibility with linux headers 2.6.30). I tried many things and the "solution" was to downgrade linux-headers to 2.6.29, and emerge openrc to version 0.4.2 (version 0.4.3.* was also tried but i get the same error). Anyone had the same problem with me? I tried to update openrc to latest version (0.4.3-r3) and the problem remains. As far as I can tell, this error doesn't affect the system, but i see that some internet applications (amsn for instance) popup network error about not being able to connect to a socket...

Reproducible: Always

This is a known but unsolved problem, also mentioned in BUG 280181 and BUG 261103 (first two hits in g00gle). Downgrade to openrc 0.4.2 should remove this warning but I keep last unstable version as I didn't feel any pain. Do you got real problems beside the warning?

I did a little "trick", which is rather not the best way to cope with the problem. I entered "rw" mode at grub to boot the partitions, so i don't get this error anymore... BUT, this way, partitions cannot be checked for errors at startup. I 'll stick with 0.4.3 and wait for any solution :)

Problem solved with version openrc-0.4.3-r4. Now everything works perfectly. Partitions are checked normaly and everything seems fine.
