Description Thomas Beierlein gentoo-dev 2009-09-02 06:05:48 UTC
After upgrading xfce's Terminal from terminal-0.2.12 to 0.4.0 the terminal stopped displaying german umlaut characters. Now I get only '?' for any of them. Also filenames with that characters are not displayed correctly.

For other console and X apps there are no problems. Downgrading terminal to 0.2.12 again fixed the problem.
Comment 1 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-02 10:16:02 UTC
I cannot reproduce your problem. Please post the output of

  emerge --info x11-terms/terminal

and the output of

  locale

to this bug.

Weird. Here comes the requested info:

tb@ham2 ~ $ locale
LANG=en_US.utf8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.utf8"
LC_TIME="en_US.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_US.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.utf8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.utf8"
LC_NAME="en_US.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.utf8"
LC_ALL=

Same behaviour for all entries at 'de_DE@euro'.

x11-terms/terminal-0.4.0 was built with the following:
USE="dbus (multilib) -debug -doc"

This is for a fresh installed Gentoo amd64 system.

I had same problem here on two further x86 systems. All works fine with the old terminal-0.2.12.
Comment 3 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-02 20:25:24 UTC
Does it work with de_DE.UTF-8 locale?
Comment 4 Thomas Beierlein gentoo-dev 2009-09-03 06:45:34 UTC
No it had not worked with that locale. But....

After downgrading to 0.2.12 and now upgrading to 0.4.0 again it works as it should.

I am not quite sure where I made my mistake the first time, but I think we can close the bug as INVALID now.
