Description Matteo 'The Peach' Pescarin 2009-09-01 10:55:33 UTC
Seems like half of the things needed to xfce4 to work are missing in the dependencies of the ebuild: just tried installing it on a fresh gentoo system, and half of the things were missing (icons images, terminal and probably some other things).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

That's not a bug, that's a feature. None of those things were strictly necessary to have a working basic Xfce install.

You'll need to add the applications you wish to keep to your world file (emerge --noreplace packagename), based on the output of emerge -p --depclean. That way you won't lose everything.

Re-read the Xfce guide:

It was a couple of months ago last time I tried to install it.
Anyway, no problems at all with this lightweight policy for XFCE, I love it, but
It would be a big plus if an einfo in postinst() can be added so that you know what to do next (choose a terminal an icon set and whatever) or at least a link to the install guide.

Thank you very much.

I just added this:

 * xfce4-meta will just provide a minimal set of packages. You may also
 * want to emerge x11-terms/terminal, app-editors/mousepad,
 * app-office/orage, etc or similar packages.
