app-portage/autounmask-0.27 (only version in portage as of my last sync) has no keywords for the alpha arch. Should have a alpha (no ~) keyword, matching the other linux-based arches. Running it with no issues on my PWS600a.
Thanks for reporting your testing results on alpha. The development rules dictate that the ebuild will get ~alpha keyword first, and if no bugs show up it can be stabilized on alpha 30 days later.

I'll tell the alpha users to test it out.
