Description Eric "me262" Mason 2009-08-30 10:32:31 UTC
I'm now getting a package keyword that I cannot work with, as I'm running KDE 3.5.10, and I'm not yet willing to commit to KDE 4.

wheeljack ~ # emerge -av compiz

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=kde-base/kwin-4.2.0" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- kde-base/kwin-4.3.0 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)
- kde-base/kwin-4.2.4 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "x11-wm/compiz-0.8.2-r3" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "compiz" [argument])

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install KDE 3.5.10
2. Try to install compiz 0.8.2, I dare you!
3.

Actual Results:
Ebuild requires masked packages that require a move from KDE 3.5.10 to KDE 4.2.4.

Expected Results:
Successful emerge of compiz-0.8.2-r3

I want to also add that I do have compiz-0.8.2-r2 installed and working.

In compiz-0.8.2-r3 the "kde" USE flag was replaced with "kde3", and the "kde4" USE flag was replaced with "kde4"; all you need to do is add "x11-wm/compiz kde3 -kde" to /etc/portage/package.use, and everything will Just Work.

Reopening to reassign correctly.
Comment 4 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2009-08-30 18:20:18 UTC
compiz belongs to the desktop-effects herd and not to the kde herd.
As I've stated in my blog sometime ago, I've updated the use flags to comply with the decision of the KDE team to have the "kde" use flag adding support to the currently supported version - KDE-4 as of now.
Comment 5 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2009-08-30 18:21:23 UTC
I'll leave this one open in case someone else stumbles upon it.
Comment 6 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-09 21:37:17 UTC
The KDE3 support has been removed from compiz in purpose, since KDE 3.5.10 has been masked for removal.

Closing.
