What does gcc-config -l say is your active gcc?
Been having the same issue as well. This may help:- Please see bug 236425. eselect opengl set xorg-x11 ln -s /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib/libGL.so This fixed the issue for me.
(In reply to comment #1) > What does gcc-config -l say is your active gcc? > gcc-config -l [1] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.2 [2] x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.3.2 * i tried all. result is bad for both.

problem in libGLU.so. it seems to me. i did a little test.i typed s a simple code: cat test.c #include <stdio.h> int main() {printf("hello world");} then i ran gcc -o test -lGLU test.c and got output like when i try to build ati-drivers /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `operator delete(void*)@GLIBCXX_3.4' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `operator new(unsigned long)@GLIBCXX_3.4' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `vtable for __cxxabiv1::__class_type_info@CXXABI_1.3' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `__gxx_personality_v0@CXXABI_1.3' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `operator delete[](void*)@GLIBCXX_3.4' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `vtable for __cxxabiv1::__si_class_type_info@CXXABI_1.3' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `vtable for __cxxabiv1::__vmi_class_type_info@CXXABI_1.3' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `operator new[](unsigned long)@GLIBCXX_3.4' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib64/libGLU.so: undefined reference to `__cxa_pure_virtual@CXXABI_1.3' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status so i did "equery b libGLU.so" and got that it belongs media-libs/mesa. i rebuilt it by both versions of gcc, but nothing changed.
it was solved. i had a garbage - libstdc++.so.6 in /usr/lib, so linker tried to get listdc++ in /usr/lib not in /usr/lib/gcc/bla-bla-bla=) i moved libstdc++ from /usr/lib and it works=)
