I've been running a non-official mirror for years now. I finally got official blessing AND a machine that does not fall over under heavy load. Therefore figure it is time to throw my info in the ring and see what happens. The server's connect to our internet providers are capped at: 150Mb/s, 150Mb/s and 200Mb/s (I1, I1, I2). (On campus is uncapped and the server can sustain full gig speeds) HTTP access: http://mirrors.rit.edu/gentoo rsync for mirrors: rsync://mirrors.rit.edu/gentoo rsync for portage: rsync://mirrors.rit.edu/gentoo-portage My current upstream for distfiles is: rsync://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/gentoo-distfiles My current upstream for portage is : rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage Thanks -paul
Hello, sorry for the delay. The mirror-admin team has been understaffed. I see your mirror is still online. Can we get the following info? * Official mirror name * Mirror type: distfiles/releases, gentoo-portage. NOTE: gentoo-portage is always rsync only. * URLs: full protocol and path for release/distfile mirrors, hostname or IP for gentoo-portage mirrors * Hardware specifications * Bandwidth specifications * Location * Intended concurrent users (for each protocol, mirror type) * Admin contact I'll add you to the testing system soon after I get that. Thanks.

Looks good, You are in the testing system now.
282132 rsync INFO mirrors.rit.edu wants to be a gentoo-portage mirror and is being checked as per Bug #282132 282132 rsync ERROR Portage at rsync://mirrors.rit.edu is lagging (delta is 00d 04h 01m 31s) What interval are you syncing at? And to where? http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml
(In reply to comment #4) > What interval are you syncing at? And to where? I just changed my update time. gentoo and gentoo-portage were both lumped into my generic "every 4 hour" pool. They now sync proper gentoo-portage syncs every 09,39 from rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage gentoo syncs every 00,30 from rsync://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/gentoo-distfiles Is there a standard naming convention for the rsync modules around distfiles? some mirrors seem to be using "gentoo" and others "gentoo-distfiles". I actually have both defined in my rsync.conf.

I > actually have both defined in my rsync.conf. > Nope, this is your discretion. Just let us know if you change something because only one will be listed on mirrors2.xml (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml). All of your mirrors are in sync now and report fine.
Half way mark: Consistently looks fine.
Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!
Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP you specified in the bug to our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send our notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! You are mirror rsync5.us.gentoo.org in the rsync.us.gentoo.org rotation and have been added to the rsync.namerica.gentoo.org rotation as well. And we are done here.
