The app-misc/git upstream has renamed the package to gnuit in an attempt to workaround the collisions with the package we know as dev-util/git. There have been a few releases since the git-4.3.20 that is currently in the tree, bringing various bug fixes and a few new features. The attached patch brings the ebuild up to date for gnuit-4.9.5, and finally allows my fellow dev-util/git users to stop using the CP when installing or updating :) Thanks, James
Created attachment 201573 [details, diff] gnuit-4.9.5-version_bump.patch Note the patch can't, and doesn't, entirely remove the dev-util/git block, as dev-util/git installs a gitview script in /usr/bin when built with USE=gtk. This is still surely better than the complete block on dev-util/git though.
gnuit committed. Once we get a stablereq in 30 days from now, we can remove app-misc/git and do a pkgmove to get the users to update automatically. Please file the stablereq in 30 days, because I will probably forget. Thanks for your work.
Why is app-misc/gnuit blocked by dev-util/git? alpha grante # emerge -av gnuit These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild N ] app-misc/gnuit-4.9.5 874 kB [blocks B ] dev-util/git[gtk] ("dev-util/git[gtk]" is blocking app-misc/gnui
