Description Frederik Maucksch 2009-08-17 22:47:14 UTC
When installing the ebuild for the nvidia-driver, version as stated in the summary, and eselecting the nvidia opengl libraries, apps that link against libopenal and libGL have problems with allocating memory. In my case it happened in the openal package, where a malloc, realloc and mmap call returned 0. Installing the same driver manually, downloaded directly from nvidia.com, the problem does not exist.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install media-libs/openal-1.7.411
2. install x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-185.18.31
3. run a test program like:
#include <AL/alc.h>
int main()
{
ALCdevice* device = alcOpenDevice(0);
return 0;
}
4. compile with -lGL -lopenal

Actual Results:
Run fails on my platform with random errors related to malloc and realloc failing.
Audio device can not be opened.

Expected Results:
No errors, audio device can be opened.

Is this fixed in 185.18.36? You should just need to copy the ebuild to test it.
Comment 2 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-29 19:54:37 UTC
Please test 185.18.36.
