Description Bob Raitz 2009-08-16 05:02:12 UTC
Emerging sys-fs/udev-145 causes sys-apps/hal-0.5.11-r9 to fail compilation at the configuration phase with the following error:

output from the install phase of emerge =udev-1.4.1-r1. Note the existence of " /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libvolume_id.pc", which does not appear in the output from =udev-145. Could this be the issue?

Note the absence of /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libvolume_id.pc as an installable. If this is by design, then the libvolume_id packages need to be unmasked. If not, then that's the most likely cause of the issue.
Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2009-08-16 08:03:56 UTC
That's INVALID (unless each of >=hal-0.5.12 are masked).
Somewhere along the way to udev-145, udev stopped providing
libvolume_id, advising people to switch to libblkid,
provided by >=util-linux-2.16. >=hal-.0.5.12 do that.

Comment 6 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-16 13:05:59 UTC
Seems like we have to adjust some dependencies a bit better here...
Comment 7 Michał Sawicz 2009-08-16 13:46:03 UTC
Here are my installed versions and hal won't compile anyway

[I--] [ ~] sys-apps/util-linux-2.16 (0)
[I--] [ ~] sys-fs/udev-145 (0)
[I--] [ ~] sys-apps/hal-0.5.12_rc1-r7 (0)

And I still get the mentioned configure error.

sys-apps/hal-0.5.13-r2 however configures and compiles fine.
Comment 8 Rafał Mużyło 2009-08-18 20:51:18 UTC
@comment 7: that's probably correct,
IIRC, those rc's in the tree were from
before hal's git got those changes.
Comment 9 John Huttley 2009-08-29 19:48:39 UTC
Still an issue..
Comment 10 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-29 20:32:05 UTC
udev-145 should be used with hal-0.5.12 and previous versions won't be fixed.
