Created attachment 201455 [details, diff] gstreamer-0.10.23-tests-libraries.patch This is caused by the plugins linking against libgstbase, and picking up the already-installed version, which is missing a symbol that the new plugins require. The attached patch explicitly links the test programs against the newly-build libgstbase, which forces it to be used instead of the system one. I'm not 100% sure that this is the correct solution, but it seems fairly low-risk as it doesn't change any files that will be installed. (In reply to comment #4) > That said, I'm not sure if your patch is right, won't the plugins try to link > against the system installed version... > Like I said, I'm not entirely sure, but the plugin's Makefile.am does libgstcoreelements_la_LIBADD = \ $(top_builddir)/libs/gst/base/libgstbase-@GST_MAJORMINOR@.la \ $(GST_OBJ_LIBS) As far as I know that takes care of the building - the problem with testing is that the plugin is loaded with dlopen, so if the executable doesn't link against libgstbase, libtool doesn't get the chance to do its evil magic and make sure the newly-built library gets loaded.
After reading all comments, I emerged gstreamer with FEATURES="-test" and after that again with FEATURES="test". Now tests passed successfully. Maybe adding an elog message about this known problem would people help to encourage them first to install with FEATURES="-test" and then reemerge it again to run the test suite. I know this is a just a workaround but it might help until upstream resolves this bug. Dustin

This should be fixed in 1.0 series as this was reworked to load plugins from build directory. As there are no 0.10 releases from upstream and we are targeting to remove 0.10, I will close this as WONTFIX.
