Description Monica Jae 2003-09-07 16:22:39 UTC
this happened with both 1.27 and now with the new release 1.28
i was hoping it would correct itself, but hasn't, i will have been lisetening to
streaming audio, and all of a sudden, it will stop and freeze, and i will have
to kill xmms. i'm using oss, even tho i have alsa compiled into the kernel, and
when i load the alsa plugin, it says "snd_mixer_attach: No such file or directory"
So i will, in the "Mixer:" box delete "PCM" and put in /dev/sound/mixer and
click apply and i don't get the error above, so I manually stop xmms and start
it again,(after loading the xmms plugin for testing purposes) i get:
"error opening alsa device: No such file or directory" so, i have alsa, cuz
it's in my kernel config

this happens as root as well

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start streamtuner or shoutcast
2.start xmms 1.27 or 1.28
3.wait

Actual Results:
after a little while, music will freeze, scrolling text will freeze as will
equilizer, button will stick, then i have to go to command line to kill

Expected Results:
consistent play until user interference

what does streamtuner or shoutcast have to do with it ?

i listen to shoutcast/icecast streams with xmms and w/out either of those ...

are you broadcasting locally and using xmms to connect to it ? are you dj-ing from xmms to your local shoutcast server ?
Comment 2 Monica Jae 2003-09-07 16:45:03 UTC
it's just the fact that i'm using xmms to connect to streamtuner to listen to it's live-broadcast streams (?) if that makes sense. so, it's not local, in the sense that's it's not on my harddrive.

I believe more info might be needed.

Do you, by chance, use the crossfade output plugin? What is your input/output plugins that you are using?

I have this problem with the crossfade plugin, and I have crossfade disabled because of it.

plugins i'm using:

cd audio player
fm radio player
mikmod
mpeg layer
ogg vorbis player
reference flac player
tone generator
wave player

echo plugin
extra stereo plugin

and it only freezes with the live streaming, not with a selected playlist, even on shuffle, or repeat. cuz i tested it out and left it on overnight and woke up the next morning and it was still playing.

Can you please try out xmms-1.2.9-r1 and let me know if that fixed the streaming problem?

Thanks.

Hmm... I am still experiencing this issue under xmms 1.2.10. There is an open bug over at XMMS on it: http://bugs.xmms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1163
