I've used a minimal cd to install gentoo on a ASUS P5Q PREMIUM and i'd a problem with a driver of SATA controller (my CD/DVD drive is SATA) i see a message "No cdrom found, impossible mount root"
I've also tried a knoppix liveCD, and all it's ok.
