The old digest reports a much larger file so portage tries to resume the 
download all the time. Updating the digest, I can emerge drscheme-205 just 
fine.

thre must have been something bogus in your system, the digest matches for me

I checked it with another user on #gentoo-bugs, tried rm 
/usr/portage/distfiles/* and emerge rsync. 
 
But hey, if it works that's great!

well i tested it before i closed the bug ;)
maybe someone fixed the digest in the meantime
