Description Manuel Wiesinger 2009-08-04 22:09:12 UTC
When typing unicode symbols inside vim(in my case german umlauts) on my shiny new gentoo installation. either the character is not displayed correctly or a space character is attached.
Happens also for vim-7.2-182

Setting enc=utf-u8 fixes

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Switch to tty, start vim
2. enter unicode symbols (e.g ä,ö,ü or ß)
3.

Actual Results:
wrong display

Expected Results:
display the characters correctly

I'm a fool. Setting LC_CTYPE to a locale supporting utf-8 (e.g. de_AT.UTF-8) fixes.
LC_CTYPE was set to "C".
Sorry, I was dead sure it was not set to C.
