Bug 28011 – binutils 2.14.90.0.6-r2 broken on PPC

When compiling a zImage.initrd with binutils 2.14.90.0.6-r2 on PPC it fails
saying that arch/ppc/boot/common/util.o is truncated. Works with binutils
2.14.90.0.2.

xfwm4-3.99.4 also failed when using 2.14.90.0.6-r2 but worked with 2.14.90.0.2. 
(internal error in (g)as this time)

perhaps someone can make sense of the suggested fixes and offer a patch for

resolves the problem. (It needs some modification in order to apply cleanly
to
binutils)
