xdm fails to start with following error message: _IceTransTRANS(TransNoListen): unable to find transport: inet6 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Some more info would be helpful. I had the same problem, so here's my `emerge info`. It's worth noting that I did not have ipv6 set in USE. Please take a look at the suggestion on bug #21127 comment #37 and let me know what works for you.
I don't have this line. maybe this is because I have gdm 2.4.4.0 installed.
OK, then grep /etc/X11/ for 'nolisten' and try changing instances of 'nolisten tcp' or 'nolisten inet6' to 'nolisten inet' like this: # grep nolisten /etc/X11/ If that doesn't work, check to make sure you don't have a ~/.xinitrc or another X configuration file in ~/ with that option in it.
couldn't find anything. but there's a comment in gdm.conf file: # If true this will basically append -nolisten tcp to every X command line, # a good default to have (why is this a "negative" setting? because if # it is false, you could still not allow it by setting command line of # any particular server). It's probably better to ship with this on # since most users will not need this and it's more of a security risk # then anything else. # Note: Anytime we find a -query or -indirect on the command line we do # not add a "-nolisten tcp", as then the query just wouldn't work, so # this setting only affects truly local sessions. #DisallowTCP=true what is the entry in the gdm.conf file called that I should have changed?
Hi, i have the same problem here and found no solution. I only have this problem since i upgraded my gnome (i used rc1 ebuild from www.breakmygentoo.org) Maybe there was a bug in the Ebuilds ? One more question...there are a lot of new features and patches for via graphic adapter. Maybe someone have some time for a new ebuild for us notebook user :) greetings Henrik
I have been in touch with bmg developers and users over time and my one rule is, if you use their ebuilds you loose gentoo support. All the way. You make the choice. That's my personal opinion, but I don't think it's a good idea to go dig in problem possibly caused by non-Gentoo ebuilds. You are using a gdm version not in portage, i don't even know how you get the nerve to come here.
This is actually a problem with xfree, not gdm per se... With the .11 version unless you are using ipv6, you cannot use the -nolisten tcp option or X will not start. You will have to uncomment the "DisallowTCP" and change the option to "false".
> "DisallowTCP" and change the option to "false" this works just perfect.
