Recently (last week or two) the following starts happening: you are able to install Gentoo and connect to the net from install cd (using dhcp that is) but as soon as you complete install and reboot all connections stop working (dhcp reports timouts waiting for DHCP server response) - no matter what interface or card is used (realtek or wireless). Same happens once you upgrade existing installation to the most recent state - internet connection that worked 10 minutes ago all of a sudden stops working - on boot you get dhcp timeout. Reloading modules manually or restarting pcmcia services has no effect. When checking the dhcp table on the router in the process of setting up the interface I was able to see the new entry for the computer and the next second it was gone again. Dhcp server in the router is working fine. Network cards are not the issue (I've tried compiling them as modules or building into the kernel). I've checked both regular (realtek 8139too) and wireless cards. I've checked forums - a lot of other people are having same issue. Their solution was to compile card drivers into the kernel (or module - different people had to do the opposite things to solve it). Please, help.
I need the following version information before and after upgrade to really track this problem down:
whoops. Need to know: kernel version gcc version dhcp client version And it would really help if i knew the before and after versions of these as well. Can you bring the interface up with ifconfig and have it Tx/Rx packets?
Due to lack of information from original poster and being unable to recreate this bug I'm marking it as "WONTFIX" it WORKSFORME as well but I can't set it to both!
