vdr-sc plugin provides VDR an ability to descramble pay-TV channels without need to use dedicated hardware CAMs. It can use SmartCards inserted into cheaper RS232-based interfaces or Ethernet-enabled DVB receivers. Moreover, due to integrated FFdeCSA code, it provides users of budget DVB cards (not capable of using standard CAM modules) with capability of watching pay-TV using SmartCards. I'm aware that this software may be illegal in many countries but I don't think the ebuild for it (with appriopriate RESTRICT?) will be too. We've already already discussed this a lot on #gentoo-sunrise and we're open to more feedback (especially from VDR herd).

the vdr-sc.ebuild is still in the vdr-devel overlay since years we will not provide it in the maintree, because this could force right problems in some countrys btw. upstream project is dead since years Hint: take a closer look on vdr-dvbapi and oscam ;)
