To prepoerly install and manage kde4 installations while basic fundamentals like the kdeprefix USE-flag is changing one need the kde4 guide (se URL above). I have found that this is a good and very handy guide. The problem is that the guide is not listed under "Gentoo Desktop Documentation Resources" where I expect to find it. One have to find a specific thread in the forum, look in the sticky post and follow some links. Finding the document is then hard and not obvious and requires you to already be aware of the document. Nor will it be, as we document the stable tree, not ~arch. We already link to the KDE installation guide, http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde-config.xml. It's up to the KDE team to keep their guides up-to-date.
